01
The short answer
You can check who unfollowed you without installing a mobile app, but Instagram does not give you a simple built-in “unfollowers” history. You need to compare follower data from two different points in time.
Older Followers − Newer Followers = follower relationships that disappeared between those snapshots.
If you only want to see who does not follow you back right now, one current export is enough. Actual unfollowers require historical comparison.
02
The manual method
You can track followers yourself by keeping a record of your follower list and comparing it later.
- Save a follower list from your Instagram account at one point in time.
- Get a fresh follower list later.
- Compare the usernames in the old list with the new one.
- Accounts present before but missing later are lost follower relationships.
This method is simple in theory, but it becomes tedious when the list contains hundreds or thousands of accounts.
03
Use your Instagram data export
Instagram lets you request a copy of your account data, including follower and following information. That gives you a structured snapshot without installing a follower-tracking app.
For this workflow, request the follower data in JSON format and keep the export as a dated reference point.
If you have not done this before, follow how to download your Instagram followers and following list.
04
Compare two follower snapshots
Once you have two exports from the same profile, compare the older Followers list with the newer one.
- Still present: the account appears in both snapshots.
- Gained follower: the account appears only in the newer snapshot.
- Lost follower: the account appears in the older snapshot but not the newer one.
This is the same underlying logic explained in how to find who unfollowed you on Instagram.
05
What this method can and cannot tell you
Two snapshots can show that a follower relationship disappeared between the older and newer export.
They cannot reliably tell you the exact moment it happened or why. The account may have unfollowed you, become unavailable or otherwise changed between snapshots.
Export comparison tells you what changed between two recorded points in time. It does not watch your Instagram account continuously.
06
A browser-based option instead of a follower app
If you do not want to install an unfollower app, Social Janitor works from the Instagram data you request yourself and opens in the browser.
Social Janitor does not need your Instagram password. It can save snapshots from the exports you import and compare them later so you do not have to match usernames manually.
Open the free preview and import your current Instagram export. That gives you a useful starting point for future comparisons.

What to do next
If you do not have a baseline yet, the best time to create one is before you need the history. Save your current follower data, then compare it with a newer export later.
