01
Cookies are only part of browser storage
A cookie is a small piece of information a website can store in your browser. We also use local storage and IndexedDB. These technologies serve different purposes: keeping you signed in, remembering your choices and storing imported snapshots on your own device.
This page describes Social Janitor's categories of browser storage. The exact cookies present can vary depending on whether you sign in, import data or grant optional Google consent choices. For the broader explanation of personal-data processing, please read our Privacy Policy.
02
Essential storage
Certain storage is necessary to provide features you request and does not depend on analytics consent:
| Purpose | Technology | Who is involved |
|---|---|---|
| Keep you signed in and protect your account | Authentication and session storage, including cookies | Social Janitor and Supabase |
| Remember your Google consent choices | Cookies or similar browser storage used by Google's consent management platform | |
| Enforce limits of the free preview | Local storage for preview usage | Social Janitor |
Rejecting optional Google purposes does not prevent these core functions from working. Clearing authentication storage may sign you out, and clearing preview storage may change how your browser remembers preview use. Server-side security and billing records are described in the Privacy Policy; they are not the same thing as browser cookies.
03
Instagram snapshots stay in your browser
Imported snapshots are saved in IndexedDB. Keep/Reviewed decisions and some preview preferences use local storage. This is product data on your device, not a Google Analytics cookie or an Instagram login connection.
Browser-stored snapshots can remain after you sign out of Social Janitor and can be visible to someone using the same browser profile. The dashboard's Clear local data option removes snapshots and Keep/Reviewed decisions, but it may not remove preview counters, cookies or analytics choices. To remove all storage for this site, use your browser's site-data settings. Clearing site data does not delete your original Instagram export files.
04
Google Analytics, Tag Manager and your consent
On Social Janitor's marketing pages, Google Tag Manager is used to load Google Analytics 4. GA4 helps us understand website use, such as pages viewed, device category and how visitors find the website. We do not intentionally send your Instagram file contents, imported usernames or complete payment details to GA4.
For visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Consent Mode starts with analytics_storage,ad_storage, ad_user_data andad_personalization denied. Google's Privacy & Messaging consent management platform then updates those signals according to the choice you make. If analytics storage remains denied, GA4 may send limited cookieless measurement signals but may not read or write analytics cookies. If you grant analytics storage, GA4 may use first-party analytics cookies and related identifiers to distinguish visitors and sessions.
Google's consent message may also ask about advertising-related purposes and vendors configured in Google Privacy & Messaging. The current purposes and vendors are shown in the message's Manage options view. You can change your choice later without losing access to the free preview or paid features. Google describes Consent Mode behavior, its GA4 cookie use and privacy practices separately.
05
Change your choice at any time
Select Cookie settings in the footer to reopen Google's consent message. You can consent, decline, or use Manage options to review available purposes and vendors. We do not require optional Google consent as a condition of using Social Janitor. If you withdraw analytics consent, future analytics storage is denied and GA4 switches to cookieless measurement; this does not undo data already processed while consent was active.
You can also delete this website's cookies and site data through your browser settings. This is a broader action: it may sign you out and permanently remove Instagram snapshots stored only in that browser. Browser settings alone are not how you give or withdraw optional Google consent; use the site's consent controls for those choices.
06
Storage duration and deletion
- Imported snapshots and cleanup decisions: usually remain in that browser until cleared through Social Janitor or the browser's site-data controls.
- Consent and preview preferences: Google may store your consent choice so it can be remembered between visits; preview preferences may also remain until you change them or clear this website's storage.
- Authentication storage: may be renewed while your session is active and expires according to your session and browser settings; signing out ends the account session but need not remove other site data.
- Analytics cookies: are used only after analytics storage is granted and have durations determined by the actual GA4 tag configuration. Withdrawing analytics consent prevents GA4 from using analytics storage for future measurement. Existing cookies can remain in the browser until they expire or you clear site data; cookieless GA4 measurement may continue.
The browser's site-data controls show the identifiers currently stored on your device. We review this notice when the technology or settings change. Contact us if you want more information about a particular identifier.
