The short answer
Use the supported restore flow while signed in to the same Social Janitor account that the backup belongs to. The restore can merge supported local data into the current browser.
They are not server backups. The file remains under your control until you choose to restore it.
02
What does a portable backup contain?
A portable Social Janitor backup can contain locally stored snapshots, Keep/Reviewed decisions and private account notes.
The backup is created as readable JSON in your browser.
03
Why do you need to sign in to the same account?
The supported restore flow is designed for restoring and merging the backup while you are signed in to the same Social Janitor account.
This keeps local product data associated with the intended account context.
04
What happens when the backup is merged?
Existing snapshots with the same internal identifier are kept, and the newer version of each saved decision is used where applicable.
This means a restore is designed as a merge rather than a blind replacement of all local browser data.
05
How secure is the backup file?
The portable backup is readable JSON and is not encrypted by Social Janitor.
Store the file securely, protect any device or storage location that contains it, and delete backup copies you no longer need.
For the storage model, read where Social Janitor stores your Instagram data.
06
What if the restore does not work?
Check that you are signed in to the intended Social Janitor account and that the file is the portable Social Janitor JSON backup you created.
If the problem continues, contact support and describe the restore error without sending unrelated private data.
Use the contact form and mention the browser, device and error message you saw.
